- Collection of letters and other documents by or relating to Humphry Davy dating between 1803 and 1837, compiled by Bern Dibner with the help of various bookdealers. Collection includes 7 autograph letters written by Humphry Davy to various correspondents, including André-Marie Ampère; the geologist William Phillips; William Kerr; James Losh, introducing Samuel Bentham; Charles Bell; James Curry; and an unnamed recipient. Other documents in the collection include 2 brief (incomplete) autograph notes by Davy to Mr. [Samuel?] Parkes and to an unnamed recipient; 2 holograph poems by Davy, captioned: "Nonsense verses. The death of the Weazel" and "lines written by Sir H. Davy... to the Countess de Purgstall"; an engraved notification form about elections to the Royal Society in November 1821, annotated by Davy as president of the Royal Society and addressed to Hutton; and a small engraved portrait of Davy bearing a facsimile of his autograph, signed "painted by Lonsdale, engraved by Thomson ... from the large print published by Messrs. Agnew & Zanetti, [printed by ] Fisher, Son & Co., London, 1837." In addition, the collection includes 2 autograph letters by Lady Jane Kerr Apreece Davy, including one to "Miss Talbot" which mentions Sir Walter Scott, and one addressed to an unnamed female correspondent; and an undated autograph letter signed by Dr. Curry, addressed to Dr. Marcet, which mentions H. Davy.
